The annual Aldaw Ti Lasam every June 13 will not be the same again as the Municipality launches the Search for Innovative Lasameño Awards (SILAW) this year.
Nominations for the different categories of SILAW are now open with a deadline on April 28. The SILAW Awards aims to recognize innovative, outstanding Lasam individuals, and their achievements and contributions to society and to Lasam, their hometown. Here are the qualifications.
The nominee should be at least 35 years old and a Lasameño by birth. He/she should be residing and practicing his/her profession in Lasam, or elsewhere, but the hometown should directly or indirectly benefit from the nominee’s valuable contributions to society. For the inaugural SILAW this 2023 however, only Philippine-based nominations will be accepted for the time being.
Nominations to SILAW may be made by someone from a government or private institution, non-government organization, or an any individual who personally or professionally knows the nominee.
The SILAW Steering Committee has Mayor Dante Dexter A. Agatep, Vice Mayor Randy C. Cambe, and SB Member Lilibeth Barut del Rosario at the Advisory Board. It is chaired by Secretary to the Sanggunian Franklin Calso, with Executive Assistant Isabella G. Lozada, Tourism Officer Elmer Acierto, and Mayor’s Office staff Alfred Ursua as members.
The Committee formulated the SILAW Mechanics which includes selecting and vetting on a pool of SILAW jurors. From this pool, the members of the jury every year are drawn, at random.
Winners will be notified within the month of May and the annual SILAW Gala Awards will be held every June 13, during the Aldaw ti Lasam Para ti Amin a Lasameño at the Natalged a Lasam Arena.
