Learning Festival Slated in Sicalao on May 2
The Natalged Reading and Storytelling Caravan, LGU-Lasam’s Feed the Body, Feed the Mind Program has just concluded its Page 2 at Barangay Sicalao on April 15, 2023. Now with assistance from an outreach program of the UP Diliman College of Fine Arts Library through its outreach program SHARE LOVE, SHARE BOOKS, a Festival of Learning has also been scheduled for the Sicalao Integrated School (SIS) on May 2, 2023, as a culmination of its initial two storytelling and reading sessions. The Caravan was in Sicalao for its Page 1 last March 7.
For elementary schools with bigger enrolment, the Caravan holds two successive sessions using materials of mostly animal themes. During its launch in Alannay last year, Mayor Dante Dexter A. Agatep himself, gamely dramatized the character of King Lion from a storybook. The Caravan culminates with inspirational stories as what will happen next in Sicalao.
Living Book Speakers will share their own life stories highlighting academic, professional, community or government service, and family life to inspire young participants.
Under the LGU-Lasam and the UP-Diliman partnership, the entire SIS community benefits from the program by providing well-curated storybooks, engaging storytelling, collaborative reading or guided reading sessions for grade school pupils.
The said partnership was initiated by Roselily A. Medrano, formerly of the Lasam Institute of Technology, now UP-Diliman College of Education Librarian.
Speakers from UP-Diliman and CSU-Lasam will also share their expertise and time to engage both the SIS grade school and high school learners. A special professional enrichment track will also be conducted for the teachers.
The Municipal Health and Nutrition Office ensures snacks served are appropriate.
So far, the Caravan has gone to barangays Alannay, Callao Norte and Sur, Malinta, Nabannagan West, Peru, Viga, Cabatacan West, and Sicalao.
The next stop of the Caravan is at Barangay Ignacio Jurado this April 22, 2023, to be held at the Villa Segundina Compound of former Congressman and Governor Edgar R. Lara. #
